When Big Pete returns to Monsterslam this year, he’s not just another monster truck. This will be his seventh time at Kent’s biggest monster truck show. That streak speaks for itself. Big Pete proves it every year with car-crushing, ground-shaking action that defines Monsterslam.
Big Pete is built on the classic Peterbilt 359 American semi-truck chassis. He stands out the moment he enters the arena. Unlike many modern monster trucks with lightweight fibreglass shells, Big Pete keeps the full big-rig look fans know and love. At about 15 feet tall, he weighs around 7.5 tonnes. He looks more like a moving building than a regular vehicle.

Big Pete rides on huge 66-inch Michelin tyres. He is powered by serious muscle. Over the years, he’s had different engines, including a 454ci Chevrolet V8. Now he runs a powerful 540ci Merlin V8 with a Coan two-speed monster truck gearbox. His suspension is old-school, with heavy-duty leaf springs and several shock absorbers. He’s not refined or gentle. He’s loud, tough, and just what a monster truck should be.
Based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, Big Pete has been a UK monster truck mainstay since the early 2000s. He’s known for reliability, spectacle, and sheer presence. When he hits the throttle, the noise alone tells the crowd something big is coming. Then the crushing starts.
At Monsterslam, Big Pete doesn’t just drive over cars - he crushes them. Vans, caravans, and stacked obstacles don’t last long. He makes high jumps. He lands with enough force to shake the ground. Watching Big Pete is an experience you feel. The vibrations move through the arena and into your chest, making you smile like a kid discovering how fun loud things can be.
Behind the wheel is Michael Murty, one of the UK’s most experienced and recognisable monster truck drivers. Motorsport runs in the Murty family. Their roots are in drag racing, stunt driving, and high-performance vehicles. That experience shows every time Big Pete takes to the arena. Mike’s driving style is bold, confident, and built for the crowd. He doesn’t just perform the stunts, he sells the spectacle. He engages directly with the audience, making every show feel personal. Driving duties have also been shared with CJ Murty. The family legacy continues behind one of Britain’s biggest machines.
Big Pete often teams up with another UK favourite, Grim Reaper. Together, they create some of the show’s best moments. They perform tandem car crushes and side-by-side stunts. They also do competitive jumps. The arena turns into a scene of controlled chaos. When these two trucks line up, the crowd expects noise, destruction, and plenty of twisted metal.
Now, for the seventh time, Big Pete is back at Monsterslam. After six appearances, he’s still as impressive as ever. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a long-time fan, you’ll be amazed by his size, sound, look, and fearless approach to every obstacle. That’s why Monsterslam keeps inviting him back. He always delivers.
There are many monster trucks out there, but in the UK, Big Pete stands alone. He’s bigger, louder, and more iconic. He’s not just another truck; he’s a key part of Monsterslam.
This year, he’s back to show why.
